Page 1 of 2 When was the last time you made time for salon-styling your locks? Saving up for the big splurge? Here are some quick fixes for maintaining an enviable mane at home. The cost effective 7 step guide...
1. The Do-It-Yourself Scalp Treatment
Step up the nourishment factor. Before you shower, work hair oil into your scalp. Using your fingertips, begin at the nape of your neck
and languorously massage your way towards your forehead. Gently lift the skin of your scalp and slowly release. Allow the oil to seep in for half an hour, and then shampoo. “It is hara-kiri for your oily tresses to get wet in the rain,” says hair stylist Dorris. “Do what it takes, including shampooing everyday to keep your locks clean and free from dirt and grease.”
2. Relieve your hair of knots using a wide toothed comb before shampooing. This helps in aligning the strands, evens out your scalp’s natural oils to prevent drying later and also prevents a knotty affair post shampooing. You will also minimize hair breakage when you comb your hair later. Strands are at their weakest when wet, so avoid untangling immediately after a hairwash. Wait till partially dry and use a non-creamy detangling spray if necessary to ease the tangles.
3. Dilute shampoo with water and apply on your scalp with your fingertips to remove the dirt and grease. Preening in front of the mirror with piled up frothy locks is great fun but wreaks havoc on your locks. You’ll end up making way for vicious tangles. Let your hair hang loose, allowing lather to flow down along its length for effective cleansing. And run a wide toothed comb through your hair while letting water cascade along its length Granma’s trick for giving an unbeatable shine to your mane works: As a last rinse, use a mug of water with a tablespoon of vinegar or pour on a bottle of beer.
