“The overtly glossy look is out. Subtle gloss is in,” says make up maestro Cory Walia, But the colours you choose must be in sync with your complexion, rather than in keeping with trends.” For eye make up, Cory recommends light and medium tones for party outings. Trendy both off and on the ramp are variations of copper, bronze and gold. “The main problem with luminescent eye shadow is that when you open your eyes and shut them, after application, the make up begins to settle along the creases on the eye lids. To circumvent this problem, it is best to use quality products, and in proportion. Don’t lather them on,” he says. So if you want to look the sexy puss, spread MAC pigments (they’re available in magical hues) evenly on your eyelids, blend perfectly, then dab on the dedicated MAC eye gloss.
Optionally, eye base is the perfect answer to making eye make up last longer. Spread along your eyelids, after mixing with moisturizer, recommends make up artist Bharat Godambe. How about tinted moisturizers? “They are a tricky bet if not merged expertly with the foundation,” says Bharat. “It is better to use either foundation base or a tinted moisturizer to prevent cracking and patchiness of the base.” Follow it up with a liquid or powder nude eye shadow. Apply silver highlighter or white shimmer. The colour of your eye make up must be in sync with the lip and blush tones. Raspberry and pink (for morning events), bronze and rust (in the evenings), peaches and nude (in the afternoons)work well. The fine tipped gel eyeliner by MAC and Bobbi Brown are great buys. The limited edition glitter eye liner in copper, deep purple and iridescent aqua is the pick of the season, according to Cory.
For killer lips, and full pout, apply the base on lips, outline with a shimmer lip pencil and lock in the sheer with gloss. Though what you must consider while purchasing lip gloss is it sparkle factor and consistency, maintains Cory. The sauciest ones are available in leading brands like MAC, Bobbi Brown, Chambor and even Lakme. To complete the luminous appeal, the apples of your cheeks must sustain that healthy glow of shine too. You must remember that glossy make up reflects light and therefore highlights the part of your face where it is applied. So steer clear if you have unwanted eruptions on your skin. Soft tones in warm pink, peach, copper and rust in cream blush are favourites for accentuating cheekbones. “But a skilful application together with smooth skin is a must,” asserts Cory.
You can dab on a silver highlighter for a sensuous zing. “Be careful while applying liquid shimmer. Make up Forever and MAC offer superb ones though you must avoid the ‘separation’ that appears when liquid shimmer is apply poorly over foundation,” sums up Cory. So what are you waiting for?
