Page 1 of 3 You dole out money for high quality, yet get duped sometimes into buying products that are inferior in make. As a consumer, it is your prerogative and duty to stay in the know of changing rules, guidelines and methods to escape getting a raw deal of any kind. Shilpi Madan works out a handy, consumer manual.
1. As a consumer you deserve the best and fair deal. That cuts through the clutter of fakes and look-alikes. Beware of namesakes. An absence or presence of a letter in a brand name is a tell tale sign. Peruse carefully through the array of products on offer at supermarts and bargain bazaars and prioritize quality while making your purchase. Ensure you take a bill.
2. While making purchases, take out a few moments to peruse through the fine print on the packaging. Apart from the MRP, it must carry the address of the manufacturer or importer, manufacturing and expiry dates of the product. Says livewire anti counterfeiting crusader Sujata Tiwari, “As a matter of routine, save the packaging for a few days till you are satisfied that the product is genuine.”
3. File your bills and receipts at home in a folder. In case of contracts you have paid for maintenance of branded machinery, maintain records of bills, dates of payment and contract renewal, terms and conditions of service and records of exchange of communication regarding complaints.
