8-Do you have an inclination towards working with every day objects? Why?
I am curious about how and why things are made the way they are. This helps me innovate and think of new ideas and solutions. I believe in creating something different. It could be a lifestyle object of daily use, a consumer product or even a concept for a store. Everyday objects fascinate me as they offer an exciting realm to create products that are elemental but with a twist. I like to establish a link between the inspiration/ theme of these products and its end use. This helps in a better interaction between the person who uses it.
9-What are the materials you make use of?
Materials are never a restriction to my designs. The design dictates the kind of materials needed to realize the desired feel and texture. Some materials I have used in my palate include acrylic, paper, fabric, steel, aluminum, wood, stone, brass, silver and gold. Design and technology are in sync in my works. I am always on a lookout for new materials and manufacturing processes. The use and choice of certain specific materials brings out the design in its best possible form.
10-Name three projects you are working on at present.
a- ORB -- a mobility device that recently received the prestigious RED DOT International Design Award-2005. This design is in the process of being patented.
b- An innovative and elemental pair of sunglasses that has clinched the International OPUS Eyewear Design Award 2005. This fashion accessory, inspired by ‘the drinking straw’ reflects an icon familiar to ‘hang out’ places like cafés. Its structure allows flexibility and compliance with contours of different face shapes. profiles. Its simple design facilitates easy change of lens types.
e- Retail environment design (Shop in Shop and Store design) for Fastrack, the youth brand from Titan. 3. In your mind, what aspect of your creations lends them the winning edge?
