Unruly. Unstructured. Uninhibited. That’s the tousled way to go this season, discovers Shilpi Madan
Forget lusting for Urmila’s Bhoot crop. Short hair is passé. Make way for longer tresses that are low on maintenance and high on style.
Says hair stylist Dilshad Pastakia, “For women, a natural wavy mane is the look to go for. Hair extensions work well as I also believe that they are the future of the hair industry in India.” And for those who just got a perm done recently, take heart. Monisha of Raih salon says, “The perm is hitting back in all lengths, though not in tight, tousled waves. A lot of texture is being created by playing around internally with the body of the hair, while keeping the base more solid.”
What about bangs and flicks? “Graduated shapes are also making a comeback with long pieces of hair being kept disconnected from the basic shape of the hairstyle. Fringes, depending upon the face shape, are definitely on everyone’s wish list this season,” continues Monisha. The hair is ‘shattered’ using a razor to lend extra layers, an “unstructured look to break straight lines” puts in snip specialist Coleen Khan. “Uneven, casual and slightly tousled does the trick.”
And the palette is throbbing with rich mahogany, limpid honey, molten caramel, deep terracotta and cappuccino blast. But the guiding factor is your skin tone. A wrong choice makes you appear like a wannabe. So beware. “Appealing combinations of chocolate, oatmeal and coffee are very popular these days, with unusual placements on strands. Even men are wearing their hair mid-length, but not neccessarily straight, more wavy and even curly,” elaborates Monisha. And the metrosexual man is experimenting readily with the palette too. Readilt tangoing with the browns and creams.
For the male mane, Dilshad recommends the “grown out look – it gives the impression of hair that has been cut a month ago. Again, wear it mid length to short.” Unkempt, casual and low maintenance is the mantra here. Clearly the John Abraham and Upen Patel look doesn’t work for the entire testosterone brigade! |
