She's Amra Khan, Chief Executive Investigations at Globe Private Detectives. She majored in marketing yet took to spying with a vengeance six years ago "because it was my calling". And has been able to strike a healthy balance between the exacting demands of her line of work and family life.
"You need to major in the art of listening to make headway in this profession," says Khan with the unmistakable mark of someone who has learnt the ropes on the job. "It is a rewarding skill because as a result of it, we are able to help out so many people. And in several cases, women themselves, especially high profile ones are the culprits, engineering curious twists in the affair as it unfolds. Being a woman helps here as one is able to understand and prempt the mechanics of the female mind."
Does that undermine the challenge inherent to the profession? "No. In fact the latest developments in technology more than add to the challenge. It gives an adrenalin rush, trying to ingratiate these into our working within the legal periphery." Believable, as the scene of crime has witnessed many changes since Jeffery Archer and Sidney Sheldon last wrote. And the invention of sleeker gadgets has modernised investigation techniques greatly.
