Page 7 of 7 "The bottomline is getting things done. I take on an equal number of marital and corporate cases. The unpredictable variables involved in corporate cases are daunting and make the work more enjoyable than marital discord issues where there is generally no going back for the people involved, once the case has been unravelled. Like recently we brought about a large scale crackdown in the instance of duplicate goods flooding the market under the lookalike-logo of an established oil company. Or in another instance where an electronic company had stolen its own products once unloaded at the distributors for milking insurance," says Khan.
So what's the cost factor like? "The business hinges on complete trust. And since each case is peculiar in itself, the money varies. Say for surveillance required, the charges would probably be around Rs 10,000 a day. Factors like tailing the suspect in a car, frequenting the same hangouts, be they be beer parlours, to keep watch, need to be taken into consideration too."
For those who believe that the profession draws the marrow out of the bones, Khan has something to say. "Whether you are an architect or an accountant or a journalist, you do get work related calls after 'work hours'. It's the same for a private investigator. I start work at 9:00 am and mostly wrap up by 6:30pm, but the calls persist till much later. The idea is to put things into perspective. And delegate. And if you enjoy what you do, you never have to work a day in your life."
