Ideally, you must choose a venue that is weather compliant. A kebab
barbeque by the pool on a hot summer night is avoidable. Comfort is the
key consideration here. Unless you wish to convey an impression of an
uber-savvy family, edit the option of a swanky hotel. The opulent
interiors and prices on the menu cards might just overwhelm your guests.
The focus needs to be on the conversation, as it is this prelimnary
conversation that will help you make the decision. Opt for a coffee shop,
with the idea of sharing nibbles and coolers, rather than a full meal. It
breaks conversations less.
Try meeting at a place that imposes zero 'musts' on attire. Choose to meet
at a club, if you are a member and the place offers decent fare and
service.
The Second Meeting
In all probability your traditional parents will not comply to the idea of
"getting to know each other". So following the first meeting, (if the
level of interest persisted at both ends), you would have interacted with
each other through phone calls, emails and sms. And if you both decide to
make a go for it, the subsequent meetings will follow.
