The overuse of muscles creates skin creases and makes wrinkles appear
perpendicular to the direction of the overused muscle fibres. Like
perpetual frowners get frown lines. Some get horizontal lines on the
forehead, others get a droop at the corners of the mouth. Squinting to
read fine print, without proper reading aids, also leads to the
development of crow’s feet.
Aesthetic Consultant Asha Bachani, trained in the UK and Australia, has
started India’s first Face Gymn to combat wrinkles and fine lines. On
offer at her clinic are a series of facial exercise programs. These do not
involve the use of any machines:
1. Isometric training
Involves contraction of facial muscles. “The skin lies atop muscles, so as
the muscles sag with age, wrinkles appear,” says Bachani. “The exercises
part of the program are aimed at tightening the muscles so that the skin
becomes smooth.”
2. Facial Resistance Training
This is based on the weight training principle. Akin to the weights one
lifts in a gymn. “The facial muscles are made to work against the
resistance to build up strengthen and tenacity.”
3. Facial Aerobics
Akin to an aerobic workout for the body, the movements here are faster
and tone up the muscle mass and size.
4. Japanese Shiatsu
This is based on the fact that there are special pressure points on the
face. “A particular way of applying pressure on these points brings about
uplifting of the fine lines that set in with age,” says Bachani.
In consonance with these programs, that factor in collagen therapies,
upliftment therapies and anti wrinkle treatments, diet regulation is also
recommended. “After all, aging is a process of cell deterioration and
requires detoxification of the body,” sums up Bachani.
