I am only photogenic,” says Pria modestly, trying to wave aside the zillion compliments her debut chat show on television is earning, apart from enviable audiences the world over, with constant re-runs on four channels beaming across multiple countries. “People have been considering fashion weeks and shows as pure entertainment over the years, often mistaking fashion for style,” says Pria, as we settle down to chat in her rather tastefully furnished apartment in suburban Mumbai. There is a sense of richness, sheer luxury that seeps through her personal space. Jewelled hues in plums and muted gold, crystal curios and textured wallpaper…sort of matching her own enthusiasm in spiffy tones. The designer is tough to track down as she shuttles between Kuwait, Mumbai, Delhi and the US, busy showcasing her fashion collections, but has been staying put in Mumbai to wrap up the shoot of her avant garde show.
“Born Stylish is not just a fun chat show. I trace the style journey of each of my celebrity guests to uncover what real style is all about. For instance, how Akshay Kumar started out and has evolved into a brilliant icon, the alpha male, or how Anil Kapoor has shaped his unique style over the years and looks dapper in a three-piece suit that he wore on my show. Filmstars have stylists, but they do also have their inherent, unusual sense of style. That is what I am delving into through every 22-minute episode and ferreting out gems for all the viewers. The response has been simply spectacular, enthuses Pria. So, what is style? “It is the way you carry yourself, the level of comfort you display in your own skin. I believe everyone is born stylish.
